Now we are twenty . . .

12 October 2015

Bailey's Prize 20thAfter a month of celebrating The Taxidermist’s Daughter, October brings a new celebration – the twentieth anniversary of the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction (formerly the Orange Prize).

To mark this wonderful milestone, we are running a two week campaign in association with BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour to find the ‘Best of the Best’ of our last decade. It’s a great opportunity to look back at our winners of the past ten years, remember why we loved the novels so much at the time and to introduce a new generation of readers to these exceptional books.

Last week, the chairs of those ten judging panels met in London (a couple joined us down the line) and choose the novel they considered the ‘Best of the Best’, that most represented the founding principles and ambitions of the Prize.  You can join in from 19th October, by visiting the Woman’s Hour website and voting for your favourite.

The result of the Chairs of Judges vote will be announced at a one-night-only performance at the Piccadilly Theatre, in central London, on Monday 2 November.   I will host ‘The Best of the Best Live’ onstage, supported by all ten Chairs of Judges and award-winning actors – including Stanley Tucci and Sheila Hancock – reading extracts from each of the novels. An unmissable event!
